YOSUKE HANAMURA // THE MAGICIAN

Short Bio: Yosuke is, on the surface, impulsive and very self-interested, tending to act like most teenage boys do in the early 2010s. He draws attention to himself and tends to act on the obnoxious side. On a deeper level, however, he's struggling through the trauma of his survivor's guilt in the aftermath of the murder of Saki Konishi, a former classmate and crush of his whose family suffered when the grocery chain his father manages for, Junes, opened in their town. He's been trying to find a new place for himself socially and emotionally and facing resentment from locals who associate him with the harm done by Junes. He becomes deeply invested in investigating the serial murders happening by supernatural means in Inaba with his partner, Yu Narukami, and ultimately in pursuing and upholding the truth. His role in the story is represented by the Magician arcana, marking him as a person of action and impulsiveness and the protagonist's first ally. He's also a shameless flirt who tends to make homophobic performances, though he seems to have unaddressed feelings for the game's protagonist (I personally play him as a closeted gay teen).
Abilities: He's able to wield kunai and commands a supernatural power called a persona, which manifested when he confronted the parts of himself he was otherwise ashamed of. Yosuke's initial persona, Jiraiya, mainly possessed an arsenal of magical wind-based attacks. It awakened into Susano-o when Yosuke faced the truth of his feelings about Narukami, his investment in the investigation, and Saki's death. Susano-o's abilities are more potent than Jiraiya's, but otherwise they are effectively the same.

Changes:Yosuke's changes follow the traits of both a cockatrice and a basilisk. Current planned changes are red scales, chicken-like talons, a barbed reptilian tail, rooster-like tailfeathers, small half-webbed, half-feathered wings, red scales around his eyes, small horns, webbed ears, venomous fangs (paralytic venom), shadow-like yellow eyes with slit pupils, fiery breath, and a forked tongue.
